SUMMARY:Taste of the Revolution: Pickling & Fermenting for All Ages with Kevin Redline
DESCRIPTION:Learn how and what to pickle or ferment for your holiday
feasts! Join us for a tasty all-ages afternoon of edifying fun with
fermentation aficionado Kevin Redline.\n\nWe'll celebrate salt’s power to
preserve food\, learn some science\, demonstrate techniques\, share
 recipes\, and do some hands-on pickling. \n\nThen we'll enjoy tasting a
cornucopia of locally pickled and fermented treats!\n\nThis free program is
for all ages. Registration is requested (so we know how many delicious
pickled and fermented treats to supply). Please scroll down and use the
button below to register.\n\nThis Taste of the Revolution event is part of
our Salisbury READS program\, encouraging the community to read of
Revolution Song by Russell Shorto as well as our children's and YA book
choices. To learn more about the books and see the current calendar of
events\, please visit Salisbury READS. Free copies of REVOLUTION SONG and
our children's and YA READs will be available to take home at this event.
\n\nIn connection with Salisbury READS\, we'll start this program with a
small side dish of 1770's history about salt's significance to colonial-era
 survival\, travel\, exploration\, expansion\, entrepreneurship\, and trade.
You'll learn how the British blockade of salt sparked a New England
industry\, and we'll also mention the current day “fermentation
revolution\,” which is reviving old traditions with new knowledge about
health benefits.\n\nKevin Redline is a Scholarly Communications and STEM
Liaison librarian at Quinnipiac University and has worked in both public
and university libraries across Connecticut. Kevin is an avid explorer of
baking\, cooking\, and other kitchen “mad science” projects and is a
pickling and fermentation enthusiast.\n\nSalisbury READS is an annual
celebration of reading\, conversation\, and community. The READ encourages
the entire community to read a selected book together and engage in
discussions\, activities\, and other informative and interactive events.
This year’s READ is presented in partnership with the Salisbury
Association\, the Salisbury Forum\, and the Troutbeck Symposium.
