Stitch the Salisbury Cannons with Beverly Army Williams & America’s Tapestry In-Person
Come stitch Salisbury history and have a hand in creating America’s Tapestry while you learn about the famous Salisbury cannons.
Open to all ages, this is an opportunity to join in stitching the famous Salisbury cannons featured in the Connecticut panel of a giant tapestry that will represent the original 13 colonies of the United States.
You will also learn about the Salisbury cannons: why they were made here and how they helped the colonies win their independence.
This is a Salisbury READS program, in connection with this year's READ, Revolution Song: A Story of American Independence by Russell Shorto. For more information, please visit Salisbury READS.
No embroidery experience is necessary. Families and adults of all ages are welcome. Helpful experts will teach us the stitches, and your handiwork will go on to be displayed as part of the Tapestry’s traveling exhibition.
What is America's Tapestry?
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this collaborative project is traveling through the northeast, inviting beginner and expert embroiderers alike to weave together stories from the thirteen founding colonies in thirteen panels, each of which has been designed in collaboration with regional historical organizations.
Salisbury has been selected to help embroider the section representing the Salisbury cannons, known as the arsenal of the Revolution.
In collaboration with William & Mary (VA), Seton Hill University (PA), and the Embroidery Guild of America, the completed tapestry will be featured in an inaugural display at William & Mary College, then tour other historic venues throughout the Northeast.
Registration is requested (so that we can plan for refreshments and materials). Please scroll down to the registration button to sign up.
Then drop in at any time from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 25th, for stitching, refreshments, and an introduction to the history of the Salisbury cannons.
