Gorgeous Knitted Fabrics Workshop with Bruce Weinstein In-Person
Come create some beautiful knitted fabrics with knitting expert and designer Bruce Weinstein.
On Wednesdays June 4th, 11th, and 18th, from 2:30 - 4:30 PM, Bruce will show you how to create a different beautiful textile using slipped stitches and dropped stitches.
Week 1, June 4th: 2-Color Woven Ribs
This gorgeous fabric starts as a simple K1 P1 rib. Then Bruce will show you how to weave a contrast color in between stitches to create this incredible fabric. If time allows, we will go over the double linen stitch. Circular needles required, standard needles, and a single skein of a variegated DK weight yarn.
Week 2, June 11th: Quilted Knitting
A fine web of contrast color crosses a stockinette background. The quality of the fabric is everything. Knit it tightly, and the fabric will be stiff and inflexible – useful for items like table runners, placemats, hot pads, and the like. Knit it more loosely, and the fabric has some drape to it, making it lovely for a sweater, a shawl, a throw, or a cowl. So, bring a variety of needle sizes and let’s see what kind of fabric we can make.
Week 3 June 18th: Yes! You Can Knit Plaid. With Duplicate Stitch Technique.
Plaid and knitting are two words that don’t usually go together. That’s because it has always required highly advanced knitting skills and the ability to master the fair-isle stranded method of knitting. But you are about to learn how to create this gorgeous plaid fabric with four colors with the simple ability to knit, purl, and use a tapestry needle. The striped sections of this plaid are worked with in standard stockinette.
Your homework will be to come to class with a square of striped knitting already done.
The pattern will be provided the week before. Bruce will teach you the duplicate stitch embroidery technique to create your vertical stripes. The colors you choose for your stripes, your main background color, and your vertical colors are all up to you and will give your plaid fabric a unique look.
Bruce Weinstein, a local knitting expert and knitwear designer (also a trained chef, cookbook author, and culinary columnist), is the author of Knits Men Want and Boyfriend Sweaters, as well as 37 published cookbooks. To learn more, please visit his website.
