French Chocolate Making Workshop
Join Flora Lazar, a professional French pastry chef, chocolatier, and practicing therapist, to experience the perceptual, tactile, and olfactory experience of French chocolate making. Combining her culinary and therapeutic expertise, Flora Lazar’s pastry and chocolate making workshops bring together mindfulness principles and French culinary discipline to offer participants a chance to enjoy a focused, meditative, sensory experience and a cultivation of bodily awareness while creating delicious French confections. These chocolates are rich in cocoa butter, creamier, smoother, more intense and less sweet than typical chocolate.
At the end of the workshop, participants will leave with their own beautiful hand-made confections to take home and share.
On October 26, we will make chocolate bars and tablettes.
The Scoville Library thanks the Congregational Church of Salisbury UCC for their generous partnership in providing their kitchen for the Chocolate Making workshop.
Flora Lazar is a psychotherapist, writer, and chocolatier working in Salisbury. (www.floralazar.com). Before becoming a therapist, Flora had a French confections business and sold French confections at Chicago‘s premier juried farmers market, as well as in high-end retailers around the country (www.floraconfections.com). Flora was an invited food blogger for the Huffington Post (https://www.floraconfections.com/blog/) and the originator/producer of “Kings of Pastry,” an acclaimed film about France’s oldest and most prestigious pastry competition, the “Meilleurs Ouvriers de France” (www.kingsofpastry.com). The film aired on PBS, BBC and stations around the world, and was screened at the Berlin, Amsterdam, Full Frame Festivals, among others. Flora has traveled throughout France, observing France’s most esteemed pastry chefs and chocolatiers at close range and absorbing their pastry-Zen.
We will meet in the Congregational Church of Salisbury kitchen at 30 Main Street in Salisbury, CT.
Registration is required. This small-group workshop is limited to nine participants.
This series is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Scoville Library.
Future workshops will each feature differents kind of French confections. Watch the SML newlsetter for announcements and registration!
